Ivorypay, an African crypto payment gateway provider, today announced the launch of Duffle, its consumer-focused cryptocurrency payment application designed to make spending crypto for everyday transactions more practical and scalable.
Ivorypay’s CEO, Oluwatobi Ajayi, announced the launch via his LinkedIn on Friday 25th of April.
According to Tobi, Duffle is ivorypay’s response to two questions “How do you create better spend-use cases for crypto in Africa?” and “How do you cultivate a crypto spending habit for Everyday transactions on a continent where the traditional payment channels people are familiar with are bank transfers and mobile money?
With Duffle, users do not need merchants or recipients to accept or understand crypto directly. The app automatically converts crypto into local currency. It transfers funds via standard bank transfer methods or mobile money, making it compatible with the two dominant payment infrastructures on the continent.
However, merchants themselves do not need any special integration or crypto knowledge to receive payments. The transactions are processed instantly, and recipients are unaware of the cryptocurrency origin.
Tobi explained that Duffle was created to address the need for crypto users to perform everyday transactions quickly and efficiently. According to him, “It’s designed to help you spend crypto in places you never thought possible. Whether you’re getting suya by the roadside or buying fuel at the filling station.”
The app offers additional convenience features such as simplified usernames (Duffle Tags) to replace complex crypto addresses, QR code payments, and a straightforward interface for buying and selling cryptocurrency.
Duffle launches initially in Nigeria with plans for expansion across other African markets in the coming months.
Ivorypay also revealed that it processed over $80 million through its crypto payments gateway in the past year, onboarding more than 9,000 merchants across several African countries.
Duffle’s consumer-focused approach positions it uniquely within Ivorypay’s primarily business-oriented portfolio, marking the company’s first significant step into the consumer market.
