Crowds will flock to Boston on April 21 to watch the oldest annual marathon in the world.

The 129th Boston Marathon, which overlaps with the 250th anniversary of Patriots’ Day, has been scheduled on the holiday every year since its inception in 1897.

Here’s how fans can track and watch runners in one of the most prestigious road racing events in real time.

Marathon Tracking App

Spectators can track Boston Marathon athletes through the official Boston Athletic Association Racing app.

The app, available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play, features live tracking based on 16 checkpoints along the course of the marathon. It also includes all of the association’s events, interactive course maps, athlete leaderboards, fundraising totals, and more marathon information.

Users can track as many athletes as they would like.

Live Tracking Online

Viewers can visit BAA.org on Marathon Monday for live tracking, the leaderboard, and other updates. The website will transition to a new homepage, showcasing tracking, searchable results, leaderboards, and information on splits.

The B.A.A.’s social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, and X will also feature events happening on and around race week.

Watch on TV

Live local coverage of the marathon event will be aired on WCVB-TV starting at 4 a.m. on Marathon Monday.

Nationally, the marathon will air on ESPN2 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For international viewers, broadcasters include FloSports, TSN/RDS, SMG, ESPN Brazil, ESPN LATAM/Sur, Eurosport India, Eurosport, Astro, VTVCab, Supersport, and Olympic Channel.

After the race

Spectators can watch their favorite runners cross the finish line on WCVB’s Find Your Finish camera.
