Goal King: Osimhen clinches Süper Lig Golden Boot in debut Galatasaray season

Date:

Victor Osimhen has been crowned the 2024/25 Turkish Süper Lig Golden Boot winner, finishing off an outstanding debut season with Galatasaray.

The Nigerian striker netted 26 league goals, finishing five ahead of his nearest rival, Krzysztof Piątek, and six clear of Youssef En-Nesyri, who placed third.

Osimhen’s scoring exploits were not only key to earning him the league’s top individual honour but also proved pivotal in Galatasaray’s title-winning campaign. Although his Golden Boot win had long been expected, official confirmation came with the conclusion of the Süper Lig season on Sunday.

The former Napoli star now joins the elite list of players to have won Golden Boot titles in two of Europe’s top leagues, adding this Turkish triumph to his 2022/23 Serie A Golden Boot, where another 26-goal haul ended Napoli’s 33-year wait for the Scudetto.

Osimhen also made history as the first Nigerian to win the Turkish Süper Lig Golden Boot and only the fourth African to claim the honour after Aatif Chahechouhe (Morocco, 2014), Mbaye Diagne (Senegal, 2019), and Aaron Boupendza (Gabon, 2021).

His victory adds to a landmark season for Nigerian forwards in Europe, with Tolu Arokodare (Genk, Belgium) and Cyriel Dessers (Rangers, Scotland) also claiming top scorer awards in their respective leagues.
