AS Roma have appointed former Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini as new manager on a three-year contract.
Gasperini, 67, guided Atalanta to a third-place finish in Serie A this season, securing Champions League qualification, and also led them to Europa League glory after a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
He replaces Claudio Ranieri, who stepped down after steering Roma to fifth in Serie A and qualification for the Europa League.
Ranieri, the former Leicester City and Chelsea manager, came out of retirement last November to take charge following the sacking of Ivan Juric. The 73-year-old has now assumed an executive role at the club.
“Gasperini’s career is defined by its creative tactics, dedication to hard work, and exceptional player development,” Roma said in a statement. “Both ownership and Claudio Ranieri believe Gasperini is the right man for the mission.”
