The Federal Government is set to begin the construction of 100 housing units in each of the country’s 774 local government areas, in a push to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit and extend affordable housing to underserved communities.
This project, driven by the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme, forms part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader initiative to provide decent and inclusive housing for all Nigerians, especially low-income earners and vulnerable groups.
Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, disclosed this on while receiving a delegation from Creative Sphere Limited at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Salisu Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry.
According to the Minister, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will formally unveil the programme, which is designed to benefit low-income earners, the unemployed, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and other vulnerable groups in both the formal and informal sectors.
A major highlight of the programme is the planned construction of 100 housing units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas—totaling 77,400 homes—with a target completion timeline of one year.
“This visionary programme demonstrates President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of status, has access to safe and decent housing. It reflects his passion for a better, more inclusive Nigeria”, Dangiwa said.
The Minister explained that the initiative will be financed through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF), and each housing estate will be equipped with essential facilities such as a primary school, clinic, recreational areas, police outpost, and a shopping mall.
On affordability, Dangiwa revealed that 80% of the homes will be sold to residents of the local communities based on their ability to pay one-third of their monthly income.
“Someone earning N30,000 monthly can pay just N10,000 to own a house”, he stated.
The remaining 20% will be allocated free of charge to Nigerians with little or no income, including widows and orphans.
According to the statement, the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is the third component of the broader Renewed Hope Housing initiative, which also includes Renewed Hope Cities and Renewed Hope Housing Estates.
The Minister noted that Renewed Hope Cities are currently under development in seven locations: Abuja, Rivers, Lagos, Enugu, Nasarawa, Kano, and Maiduguri—each representing one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

He added that these projects are being executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
In addition, the government plans to build 250 housing units in two capital cities from each geopolitical zone—totaling twelve cities under the Renewed Hope Estates scheme.
These units are being funded directly through the Federal budget, with plans to expand in the coming year.
In a related development, the Minister expressed support for a partnership proposal from Creative Sphere Limited for the upcoming Real Estate Innovation and Investment Carnival, scheduled for later this year.
He commended the initiative as a valuable platform to boost the visibility of government housing programmes and promote investment in the sector.
Chairman of Creative Sphere Limited, Mr. Monday Ogedengbe, who led the visiting delegation, said the event aims to spotlight the real estate sector’s role in national development through an engaging carnival-style awareness campaign, both locally and internationally.
