Nkechinyere Mbah, the First Lady of Enugu State, has successfully concluded her familiarisation tour across the three senatorial districts of the state, with a vow to ensure that women and children receive adequate empowerment.
The First Lady who was on familiarization toure of the three senatorial zones of Enugu, from Amagunze (Enugu East), Nsukka (Enugu North), and Awgu (Enugu West), received enthusiastic support from traditional rulers, women groups, youth organisations, professionals, and political stakeholders.
Mbah, while addressing a large gathering in Awgu over the weekend, emphasized that the tour was not only to connect with the people but to understand their unique needs and aspirations.
“This familiarization visit is an opportunity to connect with you and understand your unique challenges and aspirations. It is also a chance to celebrate the unity and diversity that define our people,” she stated.
“As the First Lady of Enugu State, my role is one of service—championing causes that affect our families, women, children, and communities. Hence, I have come to listen, learn, and lend a hand.”
She reaffirmed her commitment to championing programmes that promote the welfare and empowerment of women and children, particularly in the areas of education, skill acquisition, maternal health, and economic inclusion
She praised the 17 local government areas across the state for their invaluable contributions to peace, development, and unity, and saluted the resilience and industry of women who continue to serve as the backbone of families and communities.
Mbah emphasized her resolve to expand skill acquisition programmes and vocational training opportunities for women, enhance access to education for underprivileged children, and champion initiatives that address gender-based violence and maternal health.
“No woman should be left behind. We must break the economic, social, and cultural barriers that hinder the progress of women in our society,” she declared.
Her visit drew commendation and pledges of continued support for the Mbah administration from stakeholders across the three zones.
Those, who welcomed the First Lady in Awgu the Council Chairman, Uchenna Okolo; Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uchenna Ugwu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Victor Udeh; and Member representing Awgu North, Jane Eneh, expressed confidence in Mbah’s efforts and promised to mobilise continued grassroots support beyond 2027.
Others included Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Ugochi Madueke; Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora, Olangwa Ezekwu; PDP State Chairman, Martin Chukwuweike; and several other top party and government officials.
