Police were speaking with a group of young people in Eastleigh town centre today when the CCTV operator noticed the suspicious action.
The officers retrieved the bag, which contained a significant amount of cannabis.
The CCTV footage was reviewed, and a detailed description of the youth was obtained.
The individual, who quickly left the scene, has been identified by the authorities.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “Today, a friendly chat with a group of youths in the town centre quickly turned into a drugs seizure for PCSO Tom & PC Scott, after the eagle eyed CCTV operator noticed one of the youths throw a ‘small bag’ into the bin whilst we spoke with other members of the group.
“The ‘small bag’ was recovered and appears to be a not-so-small bag of cannabis.
“The CCTV operator replayed the footage and gave a full description of the youth, who unsurprisingly did not want to wait around.
“We know who this person is and will be knocking on their door shortly.
“As ever, a massive thank you to our CCTV operators; this result wouldn’t have been possible without you.”
