A talented dancer and actress rose to fame in 1960s Pakistan, captivating audiences with her elegance and charm. But her romance with a producer ended in tragedy, as family disapproval sparked a confrontation that would change her life forever.
The film industry is one where many come to test their luck amidst the glitter and glamour, but only a few succeed. Some have a family name to fall back on, while others struggle to make a name for themselves. One such name is that of Pakistani actress Niggo, also known as Nargis Begum. Originally from a courtesan background, Niggo had always been passionate about acting and refused to let her background hinder her dreams.
Niggo started her career in the Pakistani film industry as a mujra dancer and eventually became an actress. Her beauty and talent caught the attention of filmmakers and directors, who were keen on signing her for a movie. This led to her entry into the entertainment industry. Niggo made her debut in 1964 with the film “Ishrat” and quickly became a sensation in the Pakistani film industry with her moves and elegance. Opportunities poured in, and Niggo soon became a popular name.
Niggo appeared in around 100 Pakistani films, mostly as a dancer, and became the highest-paid “item girl.” While working on the film “Qasu” in 1971, Niggo fell for her producer, Khwaja Mazhar, and the two decided to marry despite her family’s disapproval. However, after the marriage, Niggo’s mother, who was dependent on her daughter’s income, allegedly faked an illness and called Niggo back to her courtesan life. She reportedly brainwashed Niggo into staying and not returning to her husband.
Khwaja Mazhar, growing impatient, visited Niggo’s house and asked her to return with him. When Niggo refused, Khwaja Mazhar took out his gun and opened fire, killing Niggo and her uncle.
