On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja barred Mrs. Favour Kanu, wife of Prince Fineboy Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, from attending three court sessions after she was caught live-streaming the proceedings on her Facebook page.
Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is currently facing terrorism charges brought by the Federal Government.
Justice James Omotosho gave the order after Mrs. Favour admitted to live-streaming the proceedings and apologised to the court, noting that she could have been charged with contempt.
Although Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, also tendered an apology on her behalf, Justice James Omotosho maintained that Mrs. Favour would be barred from attending three court sittings.
The judge expressed surprise that despite her phone being confiscated during the previous sitting for recording him in court, she still posted the video online.
“I want to hear from her. Weren’t you the one whose phone I confiscated?” the judge asked. “I didn’t order the phone to be forfeited. I don’t even know if she’s the wife of my brother [Nnamdi Kanu],” he remarked, to which Prince Fineboy Kanu clarified that she is his wife.
Justice Omotosho cautioned against any conduct that might delay the trial and assured all parties that justice would be served.
