Club World Cup: Bayern Munich set record with 10-0 rout of Auckland City

Date:

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich thrashed Auckland City 10-0 in their opening match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup at the TQL Stadium in Ohio, United States, on Sunday; a record-breaking win in the tournament’s history.

Vincent Kompany’s side outclassed the New Zealand part-timers from the first whistle, with Jamal Musiala netting a second-half hat-trick and Thomas Müller scoring twice in what is expected to be his final tournament for the club.

Bayern opened the floodgates early, taking the lead through Kingsley Coman’s sixth-minute header. Sacha Boey doubled the lead 12 minutes later with a half-volley after Coman’s knockdown, and Michael Olise added a third at the far post from Müller’s delivery.

Just a minute later, Coman grabbed his second with a powerful left-footed strike to make it 4-0. Müller then got on the scoresheet, turning in Olise’s cross for Bayern’s fifth, before Olise curled in a fine effort for a 6-0 half-time lead.

The goal rush slowed slightly after the break until substitute Musiala, returning from injury, curled home Bayern’s seventh. He added his second from the penalty spot after being fouled and completed his hat-trick by pouncing on a loose ball in Auckland’s half.

Müller rounded off the rout in the 88th minute, tapping in Serge Gnabry’s cross for Bayern’s 10th and final goal.

The win surpasses the previous Club World Cup record, Al-Hilal’s 6-1 victory over Al Jazira in 2022, and sends a clear warning to Bayern’s rivals in the tournament.
