Chelsea are reportedly in negotiations with AC Milan over the signing of France’s first-choice goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Securing Champions League football on the final day of the Premier League season has strengthened Chelsea’s position in the summer transfer market.

The lure of Champions League football has already helped the Blues beat Manchester United to the signing of striker Liam Delap, and now their attention has turned to bolstering their goalkeeping department.
Sources confirm that Chelsea have formally approached AC Milan to explore a deal for Maignan, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2026. However, the 29-year-old has yet to agree on a renewal, and with just one year left on his deal, Milan may be open to a sale if no agreement is reached.
“Chelsea approached AC Milan to sign Mike Maignan as the new goalkeeper. He has still not signed a new contract, and Chelsea are now aware of the situation,” Romano said.
He’s always been high on Chelsea’s list, with clubs in talks. Decision up to Milan.”
Maignan was a standout performer for Milan last season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 37 Serie A appearances. Widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, he was named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
Should Chelsea complete the deal, Maignan would represent a significant upgrade over Robert Sánchez, whose performances have often been shaky since joining from Brighton.
While Milan previously valued the Frenchman at around €80 million, reports from CaughtOffside suggest the Rossoneri could now accept closer to €40 million (£34 million) given his contract status.
