Chelsea have opened negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of winger Jamie Gittens and have offered the England U21 international a seven-year contract.
The 20-year-old is reportedly open to a move to Stamford Bridge, although an agreement on personal terms is still being finalised and a transfer fee has yet to be settled.
Chelsea are prepared to pay £30 million, but Dortmund are holding out for a figure in excess of £40 million.
The Blues, who are targeting a right-footed left winger following the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich, are not rushing to close the deal and may wait until after the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup — which both Chelsea and Dortmund are set to participate in — before making further moves if talks stall.
Gittens, who came through Manchester City’s academy, joined Dortmund in 2020 and made his Bundesliga debut two years later. He scored eight goals in 32 league appearances last season.
Despite his form, Gittens is not seen as a natural fit in the system of manager Niko Kovac, who took over at Dortmund in February.
