Chase Briscoe edges Kyle Larson for Coca-Cola 600 pole

Date:

Chase Briscoe seems to have a knack for winning the pole position for NASCAR’s crown jewel races.

On Saturday, Briscoe won the pole for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He also won the pole for the season-opening Daytona 500 in February.

“I felt OK everywhere,” Briscoe told Prime Video. “Felt it wasn’t the most perfect lap, but it was good enough.”

Kyle Larson came up just two one-hundredths of a second shy of taking the pole for himself, but he’ll still join Briscoe on the front row.

William Byron, Chris Buescher and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top-five qualifiers, with John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Gibbs, Noah Gragson, Alex Bowman and Christopher Bell completing the top-10.

Other notable qualifying efforts include Tyler Reddick in 12th, Joey Logano in 16th, Jimmie Johnson in 17th, Denny Hamlin in 20th and Ryan Blaney in 21st.

After not making a lap in practice due to steering issues, Kyle Busch qualified 24th. Meanwhile, Carson Hocevar — who was fastest in practice earlier in the afternoon — spun on his qualifying lap and posted the slowest lap of the drivers that took time.

After crashing in practice, Ross Chastain was unable to make a qualifying attempt.

The Coca-Cola 600 will go green shortly after 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on Prime Video, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pre-race coverage will begin at 5 p.m. ET on Prime Video and PRN.
