The notice was issued today by the Chandler’s Ford Parish Council to the travellers who arrived on Wednesday at the Fryern Recreation Ground.
Hampshire police confirmed that the force was aware of the “unauthorised encampment” which arrived shortly before 7pm on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson for Chandler’s Ford Parish Council said: “We have today issued a formal notice to vacate the unauthorised encampment at Fryern Recreation Ground.
“We continue to work in close partnership with the police and our legal advisors to manage the situation responsibly and in accordance with the law.
“We will continue to provide further updates as appropriate.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
This comes after the authority issued a warning to residents to stay away from the recreation ground “until further notice”.

The recreation ground is described as an “energetic hub for sports and socialising” on the Chandler’s Ford Parish Council website.
It boasts a halfpipe skate ramp, a fully enclosed hard-surface basketball court and five-a-side goals.
General maintenance repairs are due to start on the park’s skate ramp on Monday and are expected to take five days to complete.
