Real Madrid players under investigation by UEFA for alleged improper conduct during their Champions League last-16 victory against Atletico Madrid have been cleared to play against Arsenal in the quarter-finals, although three have been sanctioned.
UEFA had opened a probe into Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Dani Ceballos following alleged gestures towards Atletico Madrid fans after Real Madrid’s penalty shootout win.
On Friday, UEFA announced that no disciplinary proceedings would be taken against Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr.
However, the other three Real Madrid players were found to have breached “the basic rules of decent conduct.” France striker Mbappe and Germany defender Rudiger have both received a one-match ban and fines of £25,000 and £35,000 respectively. Spain midfielder Ceballos was fined £17,000 (20,000 euros).
The suspended bans for Mbappe and Rudiger are subject to a probationary period of one year.
This decision means all four players are eligible to feature when Arsenal host Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Emirates Stadium on April 8, with the return leg scheduled for the Bernabeu on April 16.
