Building collapse in Ojodu-Berger: Occupants trapped, deaths feared

A four-storey building in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos has collapsed, trapping several occupants and leaving some feared dead.

The structure, which also housed the well-known Equal Right Restaurant, crumbled suddenly on Saturday, sparking panic among residents. Eyewitnesses reported that the building collapsed around 11 a.m., sending shockwaves through the community.

Femi Saheed, an eyewitness to the incident, described the moment of collapse as chaotic and alarming.

“People were screaming for help, and there was dust everywhere. It was terrifying,” Saheed recounted.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), had been notified but had yet to arrive at the scene, as residents expressed growing concern over the delay in the arrival of rescue teams.

Details of the incident are still unfolding, and authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and casualties.
