Speaking to NDTV, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said there was one survivor who is understood to have been in seat 11A on board the plane.
NDTV has named the man as British National Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Ramesh said that the crash “all happened so quickly”.
He added that he had received “impact injuries” with photos showing injuries to his chest, eyes and feet.
British man ‘survives’ Air India crash
Speaking to the newspaper, Ramesh said: “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran.
“There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”
He added that he had lived in London for 20 years and he’s brother was on the flight on a different row.

Previously, it was understood that there were no survivors of the crash following word from the local police chief in Ahmedabad.
The flight was departing from Ahmedabad airport, with 242 people onboard the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
The airline said 169 passengers are Indian nationals, 53 are British, one is Canadian, and seven are Portuguese.
