Benue APC lawmakers endorse Tinubu for 2027

Date:

The Benue State Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The lawmakers made this known during a press conference at the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Senator Titus Zam (Benue North West), speaking on behalf of his colleague Senator Emmanuel Udende (Benue North East) and 10 APC members of the House of Representatives from the state, said the endorsement was in recognition of President Tinubu’s impact on Benue and the nation at large.

“We, the undersigned Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly Caucus from Benue State… have convened this press conference to formally and unequivocally endorse His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for a second term in office,” Senator Zam stated.

He cited the President’s “transformative leadership” and “tangible achievements” since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

The Caucus listed major federal projects facilitated by the Tinubu administration in Benue, including the 465-kilometre Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway and the Makurdi-Aliade-Otukpo-Enugu Road, which will feature a new flyover at the Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi.

Also highlighted were other key infrastructural interventions such as the ₦83.8 billion Buruku Bridge over the Katsina-Ala River, the dualization of the 9th Mile-Otukpo-Makurdi Road, and the rehabilitation of the Oju–Cross River federal road, a neglected yet vital link to the South-South.

The lawmakers applauded the establishment of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) to address regional developmental challenges and the support for health and education institutions in the state.

According to the Caucus, the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) and its teaching hospital have benefited from improved funding, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced academic programs.

“Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya: The federal government has approved the establishment of this centre to address rising cases of infectious diseases in the state,” the lawmakers stated.

The group also emphasised initiatives in agriculture and housing, including the Federal College of Agricultural Technology in Opialu Ojapo, the construction of 250 housing units under the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, and the approval of an additional 1,000 units under the Pulaku initiative.

In terms of financial intervention, Senator Zam revealed that “Benue received over ₦44 billion in federal allocations, including ₦5 billion in post-subsidy removal funds, ₦9 billion from the Infrastructure Fund, and ₦30 billion as part of the Subnational Intervention Fund.”

While commending President Tinubu’s efforts to address insecurity, the Caucus called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to intensify cooperation with the federal government and relevant security agencies to secure lives and property across Benue.

“We believe the fight against insecurity cannot be left to the federal government alone,” the lawmakers said.

“We look forward to seeing more proactive collaboration and genuine intelligence gathering from the state government.”

They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the President and national security agencies, pledging to use their legislative powers to advocate for continued intervention and rehabilitation of affected communities.

“We are determined to champion initiatives aimed at rebuilding affected areas and exploring avenues for compensation and support for our displaced farmers, whose resilience remains the backbone of our state’s economy.”
