Senator Ali Ndume has said President Bola Tinubu should be concerned if former President Muhammadu Buhari is not aligned with his administration, stressing the former leader’s enduring influence in northern Nigeria.
Ndume, who represents Borno South in the Senate, made the remarks during a Channels Television interview on Friday. His comments came shortly after former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar led a delegation of opposition figures to visit Buhari in Kaduna, a move that has drawn political attention.
Although Buhari no longer holds office, Ndume noted that his support base, especially among the northern masses, remains significant. He described the former president’s appeal as deeply rooted, particularly among ordinary citizens in the region, and said he also plans to visit Buhari soon.
“If Buhari is coming here now, you will see people rushing to see him. Everybody, including those in the vegetable market, will rush here. Buhari is still with the Talakawas.
“Tinubu should be worried if Buhari is not on his side. Every number counts, and Buhari has one vote,” the senator said.
Ndume emphasised the political importance of every supporter, stating that Tinubu should take into account both Buhari’s and his own positions within the political landscape.
