1. Redacted Basement Drink Parlor brings an underground cocktail bar to Summerhill

🍸 Nearly seven years after its announcement, Redacted Basement Drink Parlor has opened in Summerhill.

Designed as a neighborhood bar – Summerhill’s first true bar – Redacted offers cocktails, wine, and local beer with charcuterie plates five nights a week.

Located below street level on Georgia Avenue, the atmosphere at the underground cocktail bar is comfortable without inviting rowdiness, a starkly different vibe from other venues where owners Judy Ho and Jake Karmin (Hand-in-Hand Pub, Euclid Avenue Yacht Club) learned the ways of bar management.

2. WABE to launch City Lights Collective

🎧 NPR station WABE 90.1 has announced the upcoming launch of The City Lights Collective, a new weekday show focused on Atlanta’s arts and culture scene.

The program will premiere on Mon., July 7 at 1 p.m. and will build on the legacy of City Lights with Lois Reitzes, who is retiring after her June 26 broadcast.

Kim Drobes, current managing producer of City Lights, will serve as the show’s executive producer and co-host. She will be joined by Jon Goode, an Emmy-nominated writer, poet, and host of The Moth’s Atlanta events.

3. Savannah City Council approves zoning map to boost affordable housing

🏡 The Savannah City Council voted Thursday to approve the boundaries of a new affordable housing overlay district aimed at easing the city’s mounting housing crisis.

The measure loosens density restrictions in Savannah’s traditionally single-family neighborhoods, allowing for developments such as duplexes and apartment buildings – so long as the new units qualify as affordable, defined by the city as costing no more than 30% of a household’s gross income.

Supporters say the overlay is a step toward solving a worsening affordability gap in Savannah, where nearly half of renters are considered by the city to be “cost-burdened,” meaning that they spend more than 30% of their gross income on housing.
