American Music Awards 2025: Taylor Swift doesn’t attend the AMAs after speculation she would announce Reputation (Taylor’s Version)

Date:

It seems us Swifties may have once again been mistaken.

For weeks Taylor Swift fans have been speculating that the pop star was set to announce Reputation (Taylor’s Version) at the American Music Awards (AMAs) today.

But now the AMAs have come and gone – and Swift didn’t even show up.

In defense of the Swifties, there were a lot of clues.

Swift rearranged her website to spell out “AMAs”, and there were several clues leading to the number 26 (the date of the AMAs) including every item in her sale section being discounted by 26 per cent, and plenty of others Easter eggs that all seemed to be telling us the same thing – pay attention to the AMAs.

We also got our first glimpse at Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version) days prior in an episode of The Handmaids Tale, and Tiffany Haddish – the one to say the iconic, ”Sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh ’cause she’s dead!” line during Swift’s 2018 Reputation tour – was confirmed as one of the evening’s presenters.

When you combine all this with the fact Swift will lose the Reputation (Taylor’s Version) trademark if she doesn’t use it by August 16, all roads seemingly led to a major announcement.

So it’s fair to say that fans were shocked and disappointed when the Cruel Summer singer didn’t even attend the event.

Most memorable moments from the Eras Tour as it ends

“I watched all of the AMAs and NO F—IN TAYLOR SWIFT no REPUTATION,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

“Did someone forget to remind Taylor Swift that she’s releasing Reputation TV at the AMAs?” another wrote, while a third added: “No Taylor!!! I waited for nothing!”

But, some Swifties haven’t given up hope yet!

Given tthe singer famously said of the original album’s release, “There will be no explanation. There will just be Reputation” some fans are speculating Swift might randomly drop the album in the next few hours – but it’s a bit of a stretch.

We do have to admit, though, there were almost too many Easter eggs for May 26 to go by with no announcement, so as unlikely as a Reputation (Taylor’s Version) album drop is, we’ll definitely be keeping our phones close.

Just in case.
