Air Peace agrees to honour FCCPC summon over flight refund complaints

Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s leading airlines, has agreed to appear before the country’s consumer protection agency after numerous passengers complained about not getting their money back for cancelled flights.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), which protects consumers’ rights, summoned Air Peace’s management team following a wave of complaints from passengers across Nigeria. Many travellers say they have been unable to get refunds when their flights were cancelled by the airline.

The commission has ordered Air Peace to appear at its headquarters in Abuja on 23rd June to answer questions about these complaints and explain why passengers have not received their money back.

In a statement released on Monday, Air Peace confirmed it had received the official summons from the commission and said it would cooperate fully with the investigation.

“Air Peace confirms the receipt of summons from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) regarding complaints over refunds,” the airline’s statement said. “In line with our tradition of cooperation with regulatory agencies, we will honour the invitation and provide necessary clarifications at the scheduled hearing.”

The airline also defended its refund procedures, saying it follows proper processes when dealing with passenger complaints. “We emphasise our commitment to international best practices in aviation, particularly in handling refunds, and affirm that we follow due process in all such matters.”

Air Peace described itself as a company that respects the law and works well with government agencies. The airline said it remains dedicated to serving passengers properly and maintaining high standards in the aviation industry.

The hearing on 23rd June will allow Air Peace to explain its refund policies and procedures to the commission. Depending on what the airline says and what evidence is presented, the FCCPC may decide to take further action or work with Air Peace to improve its customer service.
