The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has turned to God for assistance to do it’s work efficiently, recognising that it may be unable to fulfill its mandate alone.
The Ministry has declared a three-day fasting and prayer program for divine intervention regarding food security in the country.
According to an internal circular, now viral on social media, Adedayo Modupe, the human resources management director who signed the memo, dated June 11, 2025, invites all staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to a solemn prayer session on Mondays, June 16, 23, and 30.

The theme is “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development.” The prayer session will be held at the Conference Hall “B” FMAFS Headquarters, Area 11, Abuja, from 12:00 to 12:30 prompt,” the document revealed.
“The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), formerly known as the The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), was established in 1966 with a clear vision to ensure food security and promote agricultural sustainability in Nigeria, the ministry’s website says regarding its mandate.
“With a focus on empowering farmers, facilitating market access, and promoting sustainable practices, we strive to cultivate a resilient and prosperous agricultural sector.”
According to United Nations World Food Programme, food security is when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs for an active and healthy life.
No further official comments have been made about the circular as of the time of publishing this.
Some Nigerians have expressed disbelief and criticism, questioning the effectiveness of prayer in addressing food security issues. Others have shown support, emphasising the importance of faith and spiritual guidance in national development.
“The funny thing is, a huge amount of money might have been budgeted for this. As they continue to waste money and everyones time. They are asking Nigerian to pray and fast. With f●○ls supporting then,” Nze Sam said on X.
@Xamwirab, another X user said “I am just ashamed to be called a Nigerian right now. These people keep making mockery of us. How long will this man and his fellow cornfused, clueless gang ruin this nation?”
