AFRIMA unveils plans for 2025 edition

Date:

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has announced plans for its 2025 edition, with the entry submission portal closing on August 8. Nominees will be revealed on August 24, followed by public voting from September 5 to November 28. The awards ceremony will take place on November 30 in Lagos, Nigeria, during the Awards Week from November 25 to 30.

The Awards Week, hosted in Lagos after confirmation by the African Union, will include events like the Diamond Showcase, Africa Music Business Summit, Nominees & Industry Night, AFRIMA Music Village, and the Main Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will be broadcast live to 84 countries.

The AFRIMA jury, a 13-member panel of experts from across Africa and the diaspora, noted a high number of entries since the portal opened on May 27. Delani Makhalima from Zimbabwe, a jury member, said, “The turnout shows African creatives see AFRIMA as a platform for international exposure and industry connections.” Omar Essaidi from Morocco, another jury member, urged early submissions, stating the August 8 deadline is final.

Eligible works must be released between August 8, 2024, and August 8, 2025, and submitted via www.afrima.org. Email entries are not accepted. The process involves pre-screening, adjudication from August 12 to 19, voting, and auditing for fairness.

Since 2013, AFRIMA, partnered with the African Union, has promoted African music globally. It celebrates talent from artists, songwriters, producers, video directors, DJs, dancers, and choreographers across the continent and diaspora. The awards provide a structured platform, connecting creatives to a worldwide audience.

Makhalima added, “AFRIMA is a movement that validates African craft and projects it globally.” Artists and professionals are encouraged to submit entries before the deadline to participate in this event.
