In a rfecent interview, Abhirami shared her thoughts on working with Kamal Haasan in Thug Life whom she calls her mentor. Also read to know her reaction on the controversy around their kiss.
Upon its release, the trailer of Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Thug Life, received a mixed response from fans. While many were happy to see Kamal Haasan reunite with filmmaker Mani Ratnam, a few were left miffed with the intimate scenes and a kiss shared between the 70-year-old actor and Abhirami. In an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times, Abhirami shared her opinion on it.
On being asked if the reaction to the age gap between them was uncalled for, Abhirami said, “See, anything is going to become a controversy these days, I don’t think you can escape that at all. I’m not in a position to judge Mani sir’s logic and about casting me in a certain role. Whatever his logic is, I’m agreeable with that.” For the unversed, Kamal Haasan is 70, while Abhirami is 42.
While referring to the kiss, she said it is a “three-second kiss!” and added, “The fact that only that was shown in the trailer is a little misleading. When you watch the movie and the scene and what leads up to the kiss, you won’t even flinch—it sticks so well to the scene. The fact that it’s being talked about this much I feel it is a little unnecessary.”
The Thug Life trailer was launched at a grand event in Chennai which saw the presence of Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam and actors Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan and music composer A R Rahman. In Thug Life, Kamal Haasan plays Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar, a man who is caught between crime and justice.
