Calls for a royal commission into the Bondi atrocity are entirely appropriate. This was a failure of our security system, one for which the warning signs have been apparent for over a decade. Royal commissions are what we do when systems break down and require an extraordinary intervention.
Oppositions always call for royal commissions. Governments usually oppose them, unless they had called for one in opposition themselves, like for robodebt. So it has been this week, with the Coalition supporting the call for a royal commission into Bondi.
