Arsenal advance into the semifinal of the EFL Carabao Cup after taking down Crystal Palace via an intense penalty shootout. The match had to be settled with a shootout as both teams shared a 1-1 draw during the full 90 minutes.
Playing in front of their home crowd at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners were keen on taking hold of the match from kick-off. However, despite their dominant ball possession, Mikel Arteta’s men struggle to break down Palace’s backline.
Arsenal’s persistence did get its reward as they finally found the back of the net on 81 minutes through Maxence Lacroix’s unfortunate own goal. Unfortunately, that goal was not enough to secure the win as Palace snatched an equalizing goal through Marc Guehi’s finish in added time.
The match went straight to penalties, and it was Lacroix again who gave the Gunners their advantage after he missed his spotkick. That miss eventually gave Arsenal a thrilling 8-7 victory and a semifinal spot against Chelsea.
