The Malcolm Betteridge Cup took place on Saturday, July 5, at North Baddesley Recreation Ground, commemorating the life of Malcolm Betteridge, a long-time supporter of grassroots football and a lifelong Saints fan.
The tournament saw under-15 teams from Michelmersh and Timsbury FC, Baddesley Park FC, AFC Stoneham, and Winchester City FC compete fiercely.
AFC Stoneham emerged as the winners, with the cup presented by Mr Betteridge’s wife, Cherry, and son, Steve.

The event, which included a raffle, and the sale of refreshments and homemade cakes, raised funds for Southampton Hospitals Charity.
The cakes were baked by Mr Betteridge’s daughters, Sharon and Dawn.
The tournament was organised by Mr Betteridge’s family, who have been holding this event annually since his sudden death in 2021.
His grandson, Olly, played in the tournament.
Mr Betteridge, who was born and raised in North Baddesley, played and coached for North Baddesley and Romsey teams.
The family expressed gratitude to North Baddesley Parish Council and everyone who supported the tournament.
In a statement, the family said: “A whopping £677 was raised, and a great day was had by all.
“We would like to thank North Baddesley Parish Council and everyone who supported the tournament with their time and donations to the charity.”
