Labaran Maku, former Information minister, and leader of Timbuktoo Media Services (TMS)
Labaran Maku, former Minister of Information and leader of Timbuktoo Media Services (TMS), has challenged media practitioners to place priority on reporting the development strides of an administration rather than the political class.
According to Maku, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, focus on the provision of roads, hospitals, and boreholes, as well as what affects the downtrodden in society, should be given prominence in the media.

The team leader of Timbuktoo Media Services, who threw the challenge while addressing media practitioners at the Government House, Makurdi, on Thursday, explained that TMS is in Benue State to showcase the record of achievements the Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration was able to post on the ground in the past two years in office.
According to Maku, while democracy in the country is not working as it should, significant achievements have been made in the past 26 years, with new universities, roads, water projects and communication as some of the sectors that gained significant improvement.
Maku said that democracy is better no matter what, and called on journalists to always focus their reports on social interventions such as training of the youth, women empowerment, skills acquisition and other technical services, which will enable people to be self-reliant.
