What makes the race so quintessentially Boston?

The Boston Marathon, the oldest marathon in the world, is a Boston tradition.

This year, the 129th Boston Marathon takes place on April 21, when tens of thousands of athletes from around the world will run the 26.2 mile route from Hopkinton to Boston.

We want to know, what’s the most Boston thing about the Boston Marathon?

Is it the fact that the race is held annually on Patriots Day, a Massachusetts holiday? Is it that it’s the oldest marathon in the world (the first Boston Marathon took place in 1897)? Is it the city-wide celebration (the watch parties, restaurant deals, etc)? All the runners who run for charity? The Wellesley College “Scream Tunnel“? The notoriously tough Heartbreak Hill? The endless inspirational signs? The Boylston Street finish line?
