Mastering Business Studies reimagines commercial education in Nigeria – Authors

Date:

Edidiong Hassan and Jamiu Adeleke Yinusa, authors of Mastering Business Studies have disclosed that as the demand for practical, life-oriented education continues to grow, learners in Nigeria will be able to reimagine commercial education with lessons from their book.

“The stories, businesses, and scenarios are Nigerian. The tools are global. The goal is empowerment. We wanted students to see themselves in the pages of these books,” Edidiong Hassan, scholar and business analyst, stated during a recent book presentation in Abuja.

According to her, Mastering Business Studies: Theory and Practice, which was published by Haytee Books is a comprehensive three-part textbook series that is poised to become a staple in Nigerian classrooms.

Jamiu Adeleke Yinusa, macroeconomics scholar and co-author, stated that education should prepare students for both examinations and the economy. “We are raising not just students but entrepreneurs, innovators, and informed citizens.”

He emphasised that with over 60 percent of the Nigerian population remaining unbanked, financial literacy, budgeting, saving, and investment is particularly timely as captured in the book. “If a 15-year-old learns how compound interest works today; they’ll make smarter financial decisions tomorrow,” Yinusa stated.

Tayo Ayodabo, CEO, Haytee Press and Publishing Company Nigeria Limited, stated that the publisher has a history of publishing scholarly and educational materials that resonate with Nigeria’s academic and cultural landscape.

According to him, the book has garnered widespread adoption in schools across various states since its launch in 2023, and has become one of the highest-selling educational materials with over 8 million copies sold to date.

“This success is not just about numbers—it is about impact. We are proud to contribute to a future where Nigerian students are not only academically sound but also economically empowered,” Ayodabo stated.

He disclosed that the Ilorin, Kwara State based publishing house’s portfolio includes works such as ‘Linguistic and Sociolinguistic Situation in Nigeria: Essays and Articles’ by Adekunle Adeniran and ‘Nigerian Democracy and Modern Nation State’ by Paul Michael Usman, which reflects its commitment to fostering intellectual growth and national development.

“I used to think business was only for people in suits. But after reading Series 2, I started an Instagram thrift store with my cousin. We made ₦15,000 in our first month,” Eno-Abasi Udo, an SS2 student at Holy Child Secondary School in Calabar, Cross River State, stated during the book presentation, disclosing that they used to see business as something vague; but now ask questions about loans, startups, and taxes.
