Juniors at North Springs High School can get free counseling as they start the college application process in a program funded by the School Governance Council.

“As parents, we know how overwhelming the college application process can be, which is why we’re excited to offer these expert-led sessions at no cost to our families,” said Jennifer Lott, president of Spartan Nation and a member of the School Governance Council, according to a news release. We hope students and parents take full advantage of these resources  to make informed decisions about their future.”

Spartan Nation, North Spring’s Parent Teacher Organization/Foundation, facilitates the series of information sessions for parents and students, according to the release. College counselor Kate Harmer of Catalyst College Counseling leads virtual and in-person sessions to equip students and their families with essential success tools.

This initiative supplements the ongoing support provided by North Springs’ school counselors and visiting college representatives. The release said it ensures students can access a wide range of resources as they navigate the admissions process.

Harmer leads engaging sessions covering vital college admissions topics, including:

  • Crafting compelling college essays,
  • Navigating the Common Application,
  • Understanding financial aid and scholarships,
  • Preparing for the ACT/SAT, and
  • Building a strategic college list.

Participants can ask questions and gain insights to help them navigate the college application process. To accommodate families’ diverse schedules, sessions are available in virtual formats and in-person sessions at North Springs High School Media Center. Sessions launched on March 25. Two dates remain for future sessions:

April 16: Noon (virtual) & 6:30 p.m. (in-person)

May 7: Noon (virtual) & 6:30 p.m. (in-person)
